Fiji’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Jese Saukuru, has extended his congratulations to the country’s athletes and youths for a remarkable 2025. In his New Year’s address, Saukuru reflected on the successes in sports, emphasizing the pride that athletes brought to Fiji through their performances both locally and internationally, particularly at major regional events like the Pacific Games, Oceania competitions, and the Melanesian Cup.
Commending the dedication of athletes across various sports, the minister noted that their achievements are a reflection of ongoing development in the sports sector. He expressed gratitude towards coaches, trainers, administrators, and sporting organizations for their tireless efforts which contributed to this fruitful year.
Saukuru also recognized the strides made by youth clubs nationwide, mentioning the formation of cooperatives aimed at strengthening financial health. He voiced a hopeful vision for the future, stating, “My dream is that one day all youth cooperatives will be operating at their own level, improving their financial positions and contributing to Fiji’s economic growth.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Saukuru underscored the importance of continued commitment, calling on athletes and youth to remain focused and drug-free as they prepare for the upcoming challenges. He issued a strong message to young people, urging them to avoid drugs, asserting that such choices waste vital resources and potential.
Encouraging youths to maintain their faith, he reminded them that divine guidance is with them as they navigate the year ahead. He ended his message by wishing all athletes, youths, and their families the best in the New Year, with optimism for even greater achievements in sports and youth development.
