The Fiji Sports Council’s 7s team is gearing up for a challenging tournament in New Zealand as they compete in the Fiji Hamilton 7s. They are placed in Pool A alongside Raralevu NZ, Mahurangi, New Edition, and the Ruwailevu NZ Stallion teams.
Head coach Sireli Bobo, a former player for both Fiji 7s and the Flying Fijians, emphasized the importance of mental preparation for his squad, which primarily consists of under-20 players. To adequately prepare for the competition, the team participated in the Epic 7s tournament held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori last week. Bobo noted that many players are accustomed to the under-21 level, and the focus is on empowering their mindset to meet the expectations of the tournament.
Adding to the representation from Fiji, AJ Pallets Ba River, a local 7s team that had previously competed in the FSC U20 7s tournament, is also participating in the event, highlighting the strong presence of Fijian teams.
The tournament will feature several pools, with notable team matchups across the categories, further emphasizing the competitive spirit of the event.
In a hopeful note, the participation of young players reflects the future of Fijian rugby, showcasing their potential on an international stage and promoting the importance of nurturing talent in the sport. This experience could serve as a crucial step in their development, not only for their skills but also for their confidence and future endeavors in rugby.
