Under-20 coach Senirusi Seruvakula, riding high after securing an unprecedented Super W victory, is optimistic about his team’s prospects as they prepare to take on New Zealand in the forthcoming Super Rugby competition. Following six weeks of rigorous training, Seruvakula encourages his players to embrace the challenge with enthusiasm and heart.

The coach draws inspiration from his own success, having led the Drua Women to an unbeaten championship in the Super W, stating, “The message is to have fun because everything is possible. Why can’t we achieve greatness with the men’s under-20 team as well?” His confidence reflects a palpable spirit within the squad, which has undergone extensive preparation to ensure they can compete effectively against formidable opponents like the Hurricanes.

The upcoming tournament at Owen Delany Park in Taupō, running from the 15th to the 22nd, is a pivotal opportunity for the Sportsworld Fiji Under-20 team, as their performance will set the stage for subsequent matches. Remarkably, this competition not only serves as a competitive arena but also aims to develop the younger players, nurturing their potential for future senior-level representation.

Reflecting on past experiences, many of the current squad members have transitioned from the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition and have shown commitment and progress during training, which Seruvakula has acknowledged. There’s a sense of hope and optimism surrounding this young team, with their dedication and the strategic support from Seruvakula and his coaching staff laying a solid foundation for Fijian rugby’s future.

As they embark on their journey, the players carry the weight of national pride, aiming to showcase their abilities and hopefully achieve success on the international stage. The commitment to developing young talent bodes well for the future of rugby in Fiji, promising exciting prospects for the sport as they make their mark in the more competitive arena of Super Rugby.
