A group of passionate young farmers from Dakuivuna village in Wainibuka, Tailevu, is bringing a fresh wave of enthusiasm to the Suva Rugby Club Games competition. The Vuna Brothers team is dedicated to participating in these matches, setting aside their farming responsibilities for the weekends to join the competition in Suva. Team members pool their earnings to cover travel and food costs, demonstrating their commitment and resourcefulness.

Team captain Waisea Naucukidi expressed the team’s mission to keep the youth engaged with positive activities in their community through rugby. “All the players in this team are just the boys from the village… We just threw together whatever money we had to be able to attend this match every weekend,” he stated. Despite a narrow defeat of 28-17 against RKS Old Boys in their recent game, the team remains optimistic and eager to enhance their skills in future matches.

The Vuna Brothers encourage their community members to come out in support, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and local backing in their pursuit of improvement. Their journey mirrors that of other grassroots teams in Fiji, such as the Wailevu Brothers, who also rely on community support while striving to deliver positive change through sports.

The spirit of teamwork among young athletes in Fiji continues to foster hope and ambition. As they navigate their personal and community challenges through rugby, the Vuna Brothers exemplify resilience, highlighting how sports can unite and uplift entire communities while providing a constructive path for youth involvement.

This initiative not only showcases the love for rugby but also reflects the broader narrative of youth empowerment through sports in the region, promising a bright future for these aspiring athletes.
