This morning, over 50 female players gathered at Albert Park in Suva for the Bulikula Talent Identification program, a significant initiative by the Fiji National Rugby League aimed at selecting athletes ahead of the Rugby League World Cup scheduled for next year.
Bulikula head coach Josaia Dakuitoga expressed his delight at the turnout, marking this as an essential step in the recruitment process for the national squad. Following this program, selected players will join the East Fiji Bulikula, with further trials planned later this year for the national team competing in the World Cup Qualifiers.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to discover new talent,” Dakuitoga stated, reiterating the importance of the participation in the upcoming qualifiers. Previously, a Talent ID program was also conducted in Nadi, resulting in the selection of a Western Bulikula team.
Athletes from diverse backgrounds are coming together to showcase their skills, reflecting the growing interest and inclusion of women’s rugby league in Fiji. This proactive approach to talent scouting not only aims to assemble a competitive team but also encourages female participation in sports, inspiring future generations.
As the players prepare for the next steps, this program signifies an exciting chapter in Fijian rugby, paving the way for potential success on the international stage.
