The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has provided an update regarding the current status of water supply across the country, detailing extensive restoration efforts in various regions impacted by recent weather events.

In the Central Eastern Region, both the Waila and Viria systems are operating normally. The Tamavua system, however, continues to face challenges; while the water quality at the Waimanu raw water intake and Tamavua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has improved, high turbidity levels necessitate frequent backwashing of the treatment plant filters, thus impacting production capacity. To assist residents who are still experiencing shortages, 38 water trucks are presently deployed in affected areas.

Communities such as Bel Air, Mead Road, Rewa Street, Tip Top, MM15B, CWM, Tacirua, and Nasinu have had their water supply restored, with complete restoration expected soon. Conversely, residents in Lami, Wairua, Wailoku, Tacirua, Colo-i-Suva, Sakoca, and Nukubuco are still facing supply disruptions.

In the Western Region, water supply is stable in Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi. The Sigatoka system is recovering after significant flooding impacted its raw water intake, with full restoration anticipated overnight. The Keiyasi system, on the other hand, remains partially offline due to similar turbidity issues, but water carting services are available for local residents.

In the Northern Region, the Labasa system is stabilizing following repairs, while areas such as Seaqaqa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni are functioning normally.

WAF officials are prioritizing normalization of water treatment processes at Tamavua and Matovo WTPs and moving rapidly towards full restoration of service. The authority has urged residents to conserve water while these repairs are underway.

In previous announcements, WAF has consistently communicated challenges resulting from weather conditions, particularly in maintaining operational capacity at the Tamavua WTP due to rising turbidity levels. The proactive responses from WAF, including deployment of water trucks and ongoing monitoring measures, reflect a steadfast commitment to community health and safety.

This update serves as a testament to the resilience and collaborative efforts within the community as it navigates through these challenges together. Residents are encouraged to remain patient and proactive in their water usage strategies during this recovery phase.
