As adverse weather conditions sweep across Fiji, the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has urged residents to prepare by storing water for drinking and cooking purposes. In a recent statement, WAF emphasized the need for additional safety measures, advising the public to boil all drinking water as a precautionary step.

WAF acknowledged the challenges posed by the current weather, noting that their teams are diligently working to maintain a reliable water supply amidst these conditions. They highlighted several potential issues that adverse weather could cause, including clogging of water intakes, damage to water mains, water treatment difficulties stemming from high turbidity levels, electricity supply interruptions, and limited access to WAF sites necessary for recovery efforts.

To assist communities in need, WAF confirmed that water carting trucks are on standby and will be deployed to affected areas, prioritizing hospitals first.

This proactive approach encourages Fijians to be vigilant and prepared during this challenging weather, fostering a sense of community resilience in the face of potential disruptions to essential services. It’s a reminder of the importance of being ready for unexpected natural events and the supportive role that organizations like WAF play in safeguarding public health.
