Local boxer Ubayd Haider promises boxing fans in the country a spectacular performance as he prepares to face China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Super weight title. This highly anticipated match will take place this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi as part of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event.
In a recent interview, Haider expressed confidence in his preparation for the fight. “I have trained really hard for this fight, as if I was going to face a world champion tomorrow. I am very positive and 100 percent sure that this belt will stay in Fiji,” he stated.
Haider mentioned that he is especially motivated as he enters the ring, citing personal tensions with Zhao’s coach and some remarks made by Zhao on social media. He is eager to test Zhao’s skills in the ring. “You can expect the best version of me on fight night. I haven’t felt this nervous before a fight in a long time. However, as the fight approaches and we stand face to face, those nerves will fade away, and my focus will solely be on defeating him,” Haider said.
Promoter Freddy Chand emphasized that the IBO Asia Pacific Super weight title bout represents a significant opportunity for Haider. “This is a big chance for the Fijian public to see Ubayd perform on home turf. We have a total of three international IBO titles up for grabs, along with one local title,” he added.
Chand confirmed that there will be ten bouts on the card, all sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF). The event also features renowned sports figure Sonny Bill Williams as the chief guest.
