Fiji’s U20 Rugby Team Aims for Glory in New Zealand!

The SportsWorld Fiji Under-20 rugby team is on a mission to establish a new legacy at the upcoming Super Rugby Under-20 competition in New Zealand. The squad departed for New Zealand recently, with their first challenge against the Hurricanes set for Saturday. Under the guidance of head coach Senirusi Seruvakula, the team has been diligently training since December last year.

Seruvakula, who recently led the Fijian Drua women’s team to an unbeaten victory in Super W, is infusing a sense of optimism and urgency in his young players. He believes that if the women can achieve such success, then the men’s team can similarly shine. “Everything is possible. We want to make a mark out there,” he stated, urging his team to embrace the competition as an opportunity for growth and enjoyment.

This tournament represents a significant learning experience for the players, who will face formidable opponents. Winning will be essential for advancing in the tournament, but Seruvakula stresses that the focus should also be on building confidence and skill. The team is aware of their historical record, having not won against the Hurricanes in four years, which adds a motivational edge to their campaign.

The players, many of whom have transitioned from the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition, are eager to show their potential on an international stage. Led by captain Iliesa Erenavula, who draws strength from his family’s rugby heritage, the team is ready to embody the spirit of Fijian rugby and aim for greatness.

Additionally, SportsWorld Fiji has bolstered the team’s resources with new sponsorships, such as Red Chief becoming the official sandal sponsor of the Fiji Rugby Union, enhancing the team’s preparations for the competition.

As the SportsWorld Fiji Under-20 team embarks on their journey in New Zealand, they carry the hopes and aspirations of their nation, eager to showcase their skills and build for a brighter future in rugby. The commitment to nurturing young talent and the optimism within the team point towards promising prospects as they step onto the international stage.
