Fiji’s U-16 team showcased an impressive display, defeating Tahiti 2-1 to secure a spot in the finals of the OFC Championship. This victory also guarantees Fiji a place in the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar next year.

The match kicked off with Tahiti taking control initially, but they were unable to penetrate Fiji’s robust defense. Fiji opened the scoring in the 7th minute thanks to Veleni Rasorewa, who showcased his skill by weaving past two defenders and calmly finishing past the Tahitian goalkeeper.

Despite dominating possession, Tahiti faced difficulties in converting their chances, with their best effort striking the post just before the halftime break. Fiji’s counterattacking tactics proved effective once again in the 68th minute when Rasorewa netted his second goal with a powerful shot, extending Fiji’s lead.

Tahiti managed to claw one back with a bit of fortune; a long-range effort ricocheted off a Fijian defender and found the net. Nevertheless, Fiji’s defense remained resolute against Tahiti’s intensified attempts to equalize, maintaining their lead until the match concluded.
