A tragic locomotive accident occurred in Lausa, Tavua, resulting in the death of an employee from Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd. The incident took place while two workers were operating the locomotive, which fell from a bridge. Police confirmed that the deceased was a 55-year-old man from Tavua, while a second worker, aged 44, was hospitalized following the accident.
Divisional Police Commander for the western region, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakabo Vaisewa, provided details about the incident, stating that the locomotive fell approximately five meters and both the deceased and the driver became trapped inside. Emergency responders from the Tavua police and fire station collaborated to rescue the trapped individuals.
At the time of reporting, Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Bhan Singh had yet to respond to inquiries regarding the accident.
