The upcoming Asia-Pacific Hotel Industry Conference & Exhibition (AHICE) Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit is poised to attract over 300 delegates in Nadi next week. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka has expressed that the event marks a revival of investor confidence in Fiji, which has been building steadily for the past two years.
Gavoka highlighted Fiji’s burgeoning appeal, stating, “Fiji right now is very hot; people want to come to Fiji to invest.” He emphasized that the environment for investment is favorable, with high earnings potential in the tourism sector indicating its quality. This growing interest is not just about hotel investments but also encompasses a wide range of tourism-related services, as investors recognize Fiji’s strong return on investment.
The three-day summit will take place from June 24 to June 26 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa. Previously held in December 2023 with close to 100 attendees, the conference saw a substantial increase in interest when it returned in July 2024, reflecting the vibrant tourism landscape in Fiji.
Recent reports have confirmed that Fiji’s tourism market is experiencing a significant resurgence, with hotel performance and visitor arrivals reaching record highs. The government has introduced favorable measures such as tax holidays for substantial investments in hotel renovations, further enhancing Fiji’s attractiveness to potential investors.
Gavoka anticipates that Fiji will welcome over one million visitors in the current year, building on the record of 929,740 visitors in 2023 that contributed approximately $3.2 billion to the economy. This strong visitor influx is considered vital for driving economic growth, with an aim to ensure that the tourism sector continues to thrive sustainably while preserving the island’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Overall, the AHICE Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit is a beacon of hope for the tourism and investment sectors in Fiji, reinforcing the nation’s reputation as a prime destination for investors and travelers alike. The sustainable growth strategy and the commitment to enhancing the visitor experience signify a bright future for Fiji’s tourism industry.
