Fiji’s tourism industry is experiencing significant growth, with 16 new hotel projects currently under construction, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka at the recent AHICE Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit. These developments are expected to provide over 2,200 additional rooms to accommodate the increasing visitor numbers, which have reached record highs. Mr. Gavoka emphasized that now is an opportune time for investment in Fiji.

The transformation of outdated properties, like Beachcomber Island into a revitalized four-star destination, reflects this positive shift in the tourism landscape. Gavoka also urged underperforming or closed accommodation providers to collaborate with white-label operators to enhance quality and capitalize on the growing demand.

In line with the anticipated growth in tourism, the government is set to welcome new additions to its hospitality offerings including the Crowne Plaza Resort and the Westin Fiji, which together will contribute around 600 rooms and new conference amenities by the end of this year.

This surge in tourism comes after a record of 929,740 visitor arrivals in 2023, signifying a contribution of approximately $3.2 billion to the economy and highlighting tourism as a crucial growth engine for Fiji. The government has also reported a total of 177 active projects worth roughly $5.8 billion, displaying strong investor confidence in the sector.

With the aim of welcoming over a million visitors by 2027 and ensuring adequate facilities, Fiji’s focus on infrastructure development including airport upgrades and additional accommodations reflect its commitment to sustainable tourism growth.

This optimistic sentiment around Fiji’s tourism sector indicates a bright future, underscored by ongoing investments, diverse experiences for visitors, and a supportive government keen on enhancing the local economy.
