Fijian endurance athlete Tiago Ribeiro is making waves in the international fitness community after his recent participation in the HYROX event held in Melbourne. This competition underscores Fiji’s increasing footprint in the world of sports. Ribeiro showcased his impressive capabilities by completing the Melbourne race in a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 41 seconds.

HYROX is a global indoor fitness race that demands a blend of endurance and strength from participants. The format consists of eight rounds, each involving a one-kilometre run followed by a functional workout station. This standardized format allows athletes worldwide to be ranked on global leaderboards and provides an opportunity to qualify for the season-ending World Championship.

Designed for both elite competitors and casual fitness enthusiasts, HYROX is experiencing rapid growth, becoming one of the fastest-rising participation sports globally. Ribeiro, who trains at Afterburn and BoxFit gyms in Suva, credits his preparation to a consistent training regimen, personal running sessions, and collaboration with the Suva Marathon Running Club.

His recent performance in Melbourne is part of a string of commendable results throughout the region. Ribeiro achieved a second-place finish at a HYROX event in Papua New Guinea, secured third place in the Suva Marathon 10km, finished second in the Namosi Half Marathon, and enjoyed victory at the EU Run for Climate. Additionally, he participated in the challenging Bula Run from Tailevu to Pacific Harbour.

Ribeiro’s achievements represent a busy and fruitful competitive period for him, reflecting his commitment to balancing international events with local competitions while proudly representing Fiji on global platforms. His success is an encouraging sign of the potential among Fijian athletes as they explore opportunities beyond traditional sports, achieving recognition on the world stage.
