Fiji triumphed over the Solomon Islands in a thrilling penalty shootout, winning 6-5 in their final group match of the 2024 OFC Men’s Beach Soccer Nations Cup in Honiara. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation time, leading to a shootout to determine the winner.
Fiji’s goals during the match were scored by captain Tevita Waranaivalu and Steven Dean. Waranaivalu successfully converted Fiji’s first penalty attempt, followed by successful shots from Dean, Adriu Nabose, France Catarogo, and goalkeepers Sanaila Waqanicakau and Ilisoni Koro.
Despite this victory, Fiji did not qualify for Saturday’s final, which will feature defending champions Tahiti and the Solomon Islands. Earlier in the tournament, the team, coached by Jerry Sam, suffered losses to Papua New Guinea, with a score of 8-6, and Tahiti, at 10-1.
