Fiji triumphed over the Solomon Islands with a score of 6-5 in a penalty shootout during their final group match of the 2024 OFC Men’s Beach Soccer Nations Cup, held today in Honiara.

The match was tightly contested, finishing in a 2-2 draw, which necessitated the shootout to determine the winner. Fiji’s goals during regulation time were scored by Captain Tevita Waranaivalu and Steven Dean. Waranaivalu successfully converted Fiji’s first penalty, while Dean, Adriu Nabose, France Catarogo, and goalkeepers Sanaila Waqanicakau and Ilisoni Koro also made successful attempts during the shootout.

Despite this victory, Fiji did not qualify for the final match on Saturday, which will feature defending champions Tahiti and the Solomon Islands. Earlier in the tournament, the team, coached by Jerry Sam, faced defeats against Papua New Guinea and Tahiti, losing 8-6 and 10-1, respectively.
