Allied Motors Limited has taken crucial steps to address the labor shortage facing Fiji’s sugar industry by partnering with the Sugar Cane Growers Fund’s Loyalty Program to support farmers. This collaboration, announced during a recent signing ceremony in Lautoka, aims to provide valuable assistance to farmers struggling with labor issues and to enhance the operational efficiency of sugar cane harvesting.

Krishneel Kumar, the agriculture sales manager at Allied Motors, expressed the company’s dedication to aiding farmers by facilitating essential repairs and maintenance for harvesting equipment. “Our main purpose is to help out the farmers that are really struggling nowadays,” he stated. The partnership seeks to forge effective solutions to alleviate the growing concerns related to labor shortages within the industry.

Allied Motors has made a significant impact by selling over 70 mechanical harvesters, which are currently in operation across the main cane belt areas of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The collaboration with the Sugar Cane Growers Fund allows access to more than 10,260 growers, reinforcing support for the farming community.

Raj Sharma, CEO of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, highlighted the advantages of the Loyalty Program, which includes special rates and benefits for the growers. As of now, 1,370 loyalty cards have been distributed and 15 various partners are engaged, offering diverse benefits to these farmers. Notable partnerships include those with private hospitals, medical practitioners, and supermarkets, which collectively expand the services available to sugar cane growers.

This initiative not only underscores the commitment of both Allied Motors and the Sugar Cane Growers Fund to improve the agricultural sector but also reflects ongoing efforts to modernize farming practices. The Fund’s programs, including previous partnerships aimed at providing discounts on essential products and healthcare, signify a holistic approach to enhancing the standard of living for farmers.

Overall, this collaboration presents a promising pathway towards addressing labor shortages while ensuring sustainability and productivity in Fiji’s sugar industry. The unwavering support for farmers reinforces a hopeful outlook and positions the industry for future growth amidst its challenges.
