Beyond the headline

South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG), a prominent marine tourism operator in Fiji, celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 by recognizing the vital contributions of its female workforce. The company highlighted that women occupy 57 percent of its leadership team, with eight standout leaders overseeing various strategic, operational, marine, hospitality, commercial, and corporate roles within the organization.

In a statement, SSCG emphasized the importance of investing in its people, particularly women, who play a crucial role in reshaping leadership in sectors long viewed as male-dominated, such as marine operations and tourism. CEO Brad Rutherford noted that while the marine and maritime industries have historically been perceived as male-centric, SSCG is actively working to change that narrative.

Rutherford expressed pride in the female leaders of SSCG, stating, “Our women leaders are not only participating – they are leading, innovating, and shaping the future of our business.” The theme of this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” reflects the company’s commitment to empowering women through opportunities, mentorship, leadership pathways, and equal access, which ultimately strengthen decision-making, resilience, and overall organizational performance.

Operating in Fiji’s picturesque Mamanuca and Yasawa waters, SSCG has firsthand experience with resilience in the marine tourism sector, which demands operational excellence, crisis management, and steadfast safety and service. The women at SSCG exemplify these qualities daily, successfully navigating complex challenges, leading diverse teams, managing high-performance operations, and providing exceptional guest experiences.

This celebration not only honors the achievements of the women within SSCG but also serves as a testament to the positive changes occurring in the marine sector towards inclusivity and leadership diversity.
