Minister for Youth and Sports and Acting Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Jese Saukuru, has urged Fiji’s sporting community to embrace the authentic spirit of Christmas by advocating for unity, safety, and healthy lifestyles. In a heartfelt Christmas message, Saukuru extended warm greetings to young people, athletes, coaches, administrators, and volunteers, recognizing their vital contributions to youth development and nation-building through sport.

He emphasized that Christmas is a time for reflection and gratitude, noting that the values celebrated during this festive season mirror those learned in sports, including teamwork, discipline, respect, and unity. Saukuru encouraged the youth to look back on the past year, celebrate their accomplishments, and set new goals for the upcoming year, inspiring them to continue striving for excellence both on and off the field.

Highlighting the significant role of sport in uniting communities and promoting healthy living, the Minister called on families to remain active and use the holiday season as an opportunity to strengthen bonds through positive sporting and recreational activities. He also expressed the importance of protecting children during this festive time, urging families and communities to ensure their safety, supervision, and nurturing.

Saukuru reminded everyone to care for elderly citizens and individuals living with disabilities, noting that simple acts of kindness, such as a visit or sharing a meal, can create a profound impact. Furthermore, he reiterated the necessity for women and girls to feel safe and respected, underlining that there is no place for violence or abuse in homes or communities, especially during a time that champions peace and goodwill.

The Minister concluded by reinforcing that strong families are the backbone of a resilient nation and encouraged everyone to look after one another, particularly the most vulnerable members of society. He wished all Fijians a Merry Christmas filled with peace, joy, and blessings, fostering a sense of hope and community spirit during this holiday season.
