Fiji Airways men’s sevens coach Osea Kolinisau recently named his squad for the HSBC SVNS World Championship, set to take place this weekend in Los Angeles. Among the key announcements are three potential debutants: Iliavi Masori, Lasaro Bogisa, and Aisea Nawai, who are expected to make a significant impact on the field.

Iliavi Masori joins the team alongside his brother Joji Nasova, who has been a consistent presence in recent championships. Masori’s last competitive appearance with his brother was during the Pacific Games in Honiara, where they secured a gold medal for Fiji. Lasaro Bogisa, son of former Flying Fijian Rasolosolo Bogisa, has been working hard in the development squad and finally gets his chance to don the national colors after over a year in training camp. Aisea Nawai, drafted into the squad alongside Fijian Drua teammate Isikeli Basiyalo, has impressed coaches with his skill since joining the training group about a month ago.

Unfortunately, the squad has had to deal with several injuries ruling out important players like Jeremaia Matana, Joseva Talacolo, Iowane Teba, and Vuiviwa Naduvalo. Nevertheless, experienced players like Sevuloni Mocenacagi will lead the charge as captain, supported by other veterans like Kavekini Tanivanuakula, Tira Wilagi, and Isikeli Basiyalo.

The 13-member squad for the LA tournament is as follows:
1. Sevuloni Mocenacagi
2. Kavekini Tanivanuakula
3. Tira Wilagi
4. Isikeli Basiyalo
5. Iliavi Masori Nasova
6. Lasaro Bogisa
7. Terio Veilawa
8. Filipe Sauturaga
9. Sakiusa Siqila
10. Waisea Nacuqu
11. Joji Nasova
12. Manueli Maisamoa
13. Aisea Nawai

As Fiji prepares for this prestigious event, there is palpable excitement and potential for remarkable performances with the combination of seasoned players and new talent. The mix not only honors the country’s rich rugby heritage but also presents an opportunity for debutants to shine on an international stage. Fans are optimistic about the team’s capabilities and look forward to a strong showing that continues to uphold Fiji’s storied legacy in the world of rugby sevens.
