The Fiji Council of Churches recently held a “Season of Creation” program at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva, drawing appreciation from various faith-based leaders across the country. The event, which took place on a Wednesday, revolved around the theme “Peace with Creation and amongst Religions” and brought together different religious organizations in Fiji for a day of singing and the sharing of spiritual messages.
Hanuman Chalisa Parivaar President Ravi Singh expressed his gratitude for the inclusive nature of the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among faith communities to foster peace and harmony worldwide. According to Singh, working together across different faiths is crucial in today’s world to respect one another’s beliefs and ensure global peace.
Pastor Tomasi Jale of the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma highlighted the church’s significant role in supporting and safeguarding the environment and society as a whole. The one-day event featured performances from various groups, including the Hanuman Chalisa Pariwar and the Shobna Chanel Dance group. Students from St Joseph’s Secondary School also participated, showcasing a Kiribati cultural dance.
This celebration aligns with a series of similar interfaith events and movements that have been occurring in Fiji, where religious leaders consistently stress the importance of unity and cooperation in facing social and environmental challenges. The “Season of Creation,” observed globally from September 1 to October 4, is an annual event that encourages Christians worldwide to unite in prayer and action for the environment. This year’s theme emphasizes reconciliation and harmony between humans and nature, drawing inspiration from Isaian scripture.
