The Rural Development and Disaster Management Ministry of Fiji has been honored with the Aziz-ul-Haq Rural Development Medal by the Centre on Integrated Rural Development in Asia and the Pacific. This recognition is in acknowledgment of the Ministry’s significant contributions to rural development in the country.
The medal was presented during the 39th meeting of the CIRDAP Technical Committee held last week in Melaka, Malaysia. The Aziz-Ul Haq Rural Development Medal is awarded to individuals or organizations that have made remarkable achievements in integrated rural development, thereby improving livelihoods, reducing poverty, and enhancing food security for rural populations in the Asia and Pacific region.
Senior Economic Planning Officer Kaselia Adivatulili and Director of Development Services Arieta Dimuri represented the Ministry and received the award at the Committee meeting.
Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Isoa Talemaibua, described the award as a major accomplishment for the Ministry. He expressed gratitude to all staff members for their hard work and commitment to effective service delivery.
Talemaibua stated, “The Ministry remains dedicated to its mission of ensuring inclusive development for productive, sustainable, and resilient rural communities. This award reflects the collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication of our team in enhancing the well-being and prosperity of rural areas. We are committed to improving the quality of life for all rural Fijians through innovative and sustainable development initiatives.”
He also thanked CIRDAP for acknowledging the Ministry’s efforts and highlighted the significance of continued cooperation with regional and international partners to tackle the challenges faced by rural communities.
The Rural Development and Disaster Management Ministry has been leading various programs aimed at improving infrastructure, increasing agricultural productivity, and delivering essential services in rural areas. The CIRDAP recognition underscores the vital role the Ministry plays in advancing rural development and fostering overall socio-economic growth in Fiji.
