Fiji’s rugby captain Waisea Nayacalevu has officially signed with the Ospreys from Sale Sharks for the remainder of the season, filling the gap left by injured centre Owen Watkin. The 34-year-old joined Sale at the start of the 2024-25 season as a replacement for Manu Tuilagi and has participated in seven matches since then.

Previously, Nayacalevu spent ten successful years at Stade Francais, scoring 82 tries in 200 appearances before moving to Toulon. While at Toulon, he returned to the international spotlight by captaining Fiji to a significant victory against England at Twickenham prior to the 2023 World Cup. He also led Fiji in a remarkable win over Wales in Cardiff in November 2024.

Nayacalevu’s arrival at Ospreys comes at a critical time for the team, as they are currently seeking to improve their league standing and strengthen their squad in the United Rugby Championship. This move not only signifies a fresh chapter in his career but also highlights a growing trend of Fijian players making impactful transitions between clubs, showcasing their talent across different leagues.

With his vast experience and leadership skills, Nayacalevu is expected to contribute significantly to Ospreys’ aspirations as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, including a vital European Challenge Cup clash against Scarlets. As Nayacalevu embarks on this new journey, fans and analysts alike are hopeful that he will make a substantial impact in the remaining matches of the season.
