Fiji demonstrated their rugby prowess with a decisive 33-12 victory over the USA, securing their place in the quarterfinals of the HSBC Vancouver 7s tournament. Under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau, Fiji took the lead early in the match, with Joseva Talacolo scoring the first try after a well-executed line-out play, successfully converted by Nacuqu.

The USA quickly responded, utilizing strategic kicks into open space that led to Pita Vi scoring, although the conversion was missed. Fiji’s Ilikimi Vunaki further built on their momentum, scoring a second try after some brilliant passing and breaking through the American defense, with Filipe Sauturaga converting.

The USA managed to narrow the gap before halftime by capitalizing on a set-piece scrum in Fiji’s 22 meter area, resulting in another try from Will Chevalier, converted by Lucas Lacamp, bringing the score to 14-12 at the break.

However, the second half belonged entirely to Fiji. They showcased their dominance, scoring three more tries through Vuiviwa Naduvalo, Joji Nasova, and Talacolo, who notched his second try of the match. Additional conversions from Nacuqu and Terio Veilawa capped off an impressive performance, concluding the match at 33-12.

With this victory, Fiji now looks forward to facing Spain in their final pool match scheduled for tomorrow morning at 6:52 AM. The team’s strong form and resilience shown in this match has generated optimism among fans, as Fiji continues to assert themselves as a formidable contender in the tournament. Their ability to adapt and recover from early challenges bodes well for future games, keeping the hopes high for more thrilling performances.
