Akosita Poulter celebrated an emotional victory as she captured a silver medal in the senior girls’ shot put event at the recent Fiji Finals, showcasing her athletic prowess with a throw of 11.39 meters. In a heartfelt dedication, she expressed, “I’d like to dedicate this win to my late dad, John Randall Poulter,” highlighting her determination to make him proud along with the support of her school, family, and community.
The 18-year-old athlete not only excelled in shot put but has also made her mark on the field as a member of the women’s national cricket team, which recently secured third place during a tour of New Caledonia at the Pacific-France T20 Championship. Reflecting on her journey, Poulter emphasized the hard work in her training, stating, “The preparation was really hard as we only had one week of preparation after the conclusion of the Tailevu Zone.”
The multi-talented athlete balances her sports and academic commitments while playing rugby union for her school and rugby league for the Lami Steelers. With aspirations for a future career in sports or engineering, she is motivated by the advice from her family to always put God first and listen to her elders.
Poulter’s achievements not only serve as inspiration for her peers but also highlight the vibrant and supportive environment surrounding Fijian youth sports. Her story, alongside the experiences of other athletes like Maryann Macedru, who recently broke a shot put record, showcases the determination and promise of young athletes in Fiji, fostering a culture of excellence and resilience within their communities.
As she looks to the future, Poulter’s positive outlook and unwavering dedication are emblematic of the spirit found in Fiji’s youth, motivating a new generation to strive for greatness both in sports and academic endeavors.
