A man in his 30s has tragically become the latest road fatality in Fiji following a serious accident on the Queens Highway near Wainigasau. According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by another man in his 30s.
It is alleged that the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and collide head-on with an oncoming car. The victim was promptly transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on February 19.
The driver involved in the crash is currently being treated in the hospital, while the occupants of the other vehicle are reported to be in stable condition. Investigations into the details surrounding the incident are ongoing.
This incident marks a concerning increase in road fatalities in Fiji, with the national road death toll now reaching seven, a significant rise from just two fatalities reported during the same timeframe last year. Authorities emphasize the importance of road safety measures to prevent further tragedies and encourage all drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
As the investigation continues, there remains hope that increased awareness and stronger safety protocols will lead to a decrease in such unfortunate incidents in the future.
