Safety concerns along the Queens Highway in Semo Village have prompted urgent construction efforts, with a temporary bypass nearing completion. This new route is expected to open soon, restoring access to one of the busiest corridors in the country.

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has spearheaded the initiative with the help of its contractors, focusing on providing a safe alternative for families, workers, and businesses that rely on the highway daily. Emosi Lalai, the headman of Semo Village, expressed his appreciation for the FRA team’s consistent presence on-site since the onset of the project. He noted that the crews have put in long hours to ensure the timely completion of the bypass, which has offered reassurance to local residents that their safety concerns are being addressed.

Lalai commended the swift response from the government, highlighting its strong commitment to public safety. He also recognized the invaluable role of village residents, who have been instrumental in assisting the public at designated drop-off and pick-up points during construction. This collaborative effort has been pivotal in keeping traffic flowing and ensuring community safety.

Authorities are advising drivers to remain vigilant, urging them to adhere to all traffic advisories until the bypass opens officially. The government’s proactive measures in Semo reflect its ongoing dedication to public safety, demonstrating that timely action can make a significant difference in protecting communities. With the completion of this bypass on the horizon, there is hope for improved safety and accessibility for all who travel this vital route.
