The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Fiji has reiterated its strong commitment against domestic and gender-based violence, following the tragic death of Sainimere Tuinasakea, a civil servant from the Department of Immigration, in a suspected domestic violence incident. The incident has ignited deep sorrow and outrage, with PSC Chair Luke Rokovada emphasizing that no individual should ever face such violence.
Rokovada referred to Tuinasakea’s loss as a stark reminder of the ongoing crisis concerning violence against women in Fiji. He articulated the need for immediate action and awareness across all sectors of society, stating, “Sainimere’s death highlights the urgent need for stronger action and greater awareness across all sectors of our society.”
In response to this tragic event, the PSC plans to implement mandatory gender-based violence prevention training for all public servants.
