Fiji’s Prime Minister Tackles Climate Urgency at Commonwealth Meeting

The Fijian community in Samoa warmly received Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Rabuka expressed gratitude towards the Fijian diaspora and stressed the urgent need to tackle climate change, with specific emphasis on the Pacific Islands, which face the threat of submersion, particularly Tuvalu.

He underscored the vital role of participating in significant events like the Conference of the Parties (COP), which serves as a platform for countries affected by climate change to garner international support.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the Earth Summit held in Rio in 1992, which resulted in the COP’s formation.

Rabuka reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts in combating climate change and acknowledged the necessity of fostering strong relations among nations.
