The Fijian community in Samoa held a meeting with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Rabuka expressed gratitude to the Fijian diaspora and emphasized the urgent need to tackle climate change, particularly affecting Pacific Islands like Tuvalu, which are at risk of submergence.

During his address, he underscored the importance of participating in international conferences, such as the Conference of the Parties (COP), which play a crucial role in addressing the impacts of climate change and provide a platform for affected nations to seek global assistance.

Rabuka also reflected on the Earth Summit held in Rio in 1992, which was pivotal in establishing the COP framework. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts and the necessity of maintaining positive relationships among nations.
