Fiji’s Political Future Hangs in the Balance: ECF Hears Key Appeal

The Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) convened today in its quasi-judicial role to consider the appeal of Opposition MP Alvick Maharaj regarding the Registrar of Political Parties’ decision to deregister the Fiji First Party, effective July 1, 2024. ECF Chair Barbara Malimali announced that the process is currently in progress and that the commission looks forward to releasing its decision once the proceedings are complete. She urged the public to understand the necessity for discretion during this time and to remain patient.
