After a demanding two-year stint, Juki Fong Chew has officially retired from his role as Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force. With a career spanning nearly 36 years in law enforcement, Mr. Fong Chew recently transferred his responsibilities to Rusiate Tudravu.

Reflecting on his time in command, Mr. Fong Chew shared insights about the challenges he faced, especially following the imprisonment of former commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho. He highlighted the importance of loyalty within the organization and recognized the unique difficulties of leading in a time of transition. “The challenge that we overcame is loyalty to the chair,” he noted, pointing out the impact of previous commissioners who were not part of the force.

During his tenure, he initiated several key projects aimed at reforming the police force, including the Police Reset and the Back to Blue initiatives, both of which were supported by former minister Pio Tikoduadua. He emphasized the significance of having a police officer hand over leadership to another police officer, marking a return to stability within the organization.

As he steps away from his uniform, Mr. Fong Chew expressed gratitude for his journey, from starting as a young constable to achieving the rank of commissioner. He shared that he leaves with a sense of fulfillment and good wishes for the future of the nation.

Looking ahead, he plans to focus on his retirement and encouraged the new commissioner and officers to prioritize the community and uphold the law. “Continue to do what is right. Follow the system and processes that are there. Do what is legal, at all times. You will not go wrong,” he advised as he bids farewell.

Mr. Fong Chew’s departure signifies not just the end of an era for the Fiji Police Force, but also the hope for continued positive change and dedication to serving the community.
