Fiji’s peacekeepers stationed in the Golan Heights, under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, are confirmed to be safe amidst recent regional tensions. Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua reassured the public that all Fijian personnel are accounted for and that enhanced security measures are in effect.
On December 8, Israeli Defence Forces were active in the demilitarized zone to address rebel activities in the region. Although UN positions did not face direct attacks, efforts are ongoing to retrieve equipment that was temporarily impacted by insurgent actions.
To bolster security, the IDF is increasing its presence in the area, while local communities are actively supporting peacekeepers to uphold stability. A Fijian officer previously evacuated from Damascus has safely returned to Camp Faour.
While the situation remains tense, there is currently no imminent threat to the safety of the Fijian peacekeepers. The Defence Ministry continues to closely monitor developments and has praised the professionalism demonstrated by the troops.
This positive update highlights the resilience and commitment of Fijian peacekeepers in maintaining peace in a challenging environment, reflecting the nation’s dedication to international security initiatives.
