The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management recently organized a validation workshop to review the findings of the Integrated Rural Development Framework (IRDF). This one-day event was crucial for discussing effective strategies aimed at enhancing rural development programs and services throughout Fiji.
The review of the IRDF is a key component in strengthening planning and coordination within the Ministry, ensuring all interventions are well-integrated, risk-informed, and inclusive of various communities. Permanent Secretary Isoa Talemaibua highlighted the importance of staff involvement in refining the IRDF, as their insights are essential for creating a practical and relevant framework that aligns with the Ministry’s mission of promoting inclusive and resilient rural development.
The validation workshop gathered essential personnel from the Ministry, including project implementation managers and the 14 Provincial Administrators, demonstrating a collective effort to ensure that the revised framework meets the unique needs of rural populations. The IRDF serves as a strategic guide for fostering socio-economic development, especially in light of challenges such as climate change and disaster response.
This initiative aligns with previous efforts that focus on enhancing rural development policies through consultations with stakeholders, community leaders, and development partners. Notably, the review also follows the Fiji National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, which emphasizes rural development as a priority for the government’s sustainable growth strategy.
By prioritizing local voices and addressing the essential needs of rural communities, the Ministry aims to lay a strong foundation for a National Rural Development Policy aimed at elevating living standards and increasing resilience against challenges.
