The future for Fiji’s outsourcing sector is looking bright, thanks to continued support, innovative strategies, and a focus on inclusivity. These elements are positioning Fiji as a leading player in the global outsourcing market.
Sagufta Janif, Executive Director of Outsourcing Fiji, highlighted the resilience and growth of Fiji’s outsourcing industry, especially during challenging times like the pandemic. She noted that Fiji has become a sought-after destination for risk diversification outsourcing.
Janif recently attended the 9th Global Trade Aid for Review in Geneva, Switzerland, where she shared insights on Fiji’s growth and innovation in the outsourcing sector. During a session titled ‘Voices of the Indo-Pacific – A Deep Dive into the Market Development Facility in Timor-Leste and Fiji,’ she discussed how the sector rapidly expanded during the COVID pandemic.
“This growth has led to the creation of numerous job opportunities and the establishment of a sustainable economic ecosystem in Fiji,” Janif stated.
She also shared thoughts on Fiji’s digital trade ecosystem, addressing unique challenges faced by Pacific nations and the promising opportunities such as the forthcoming Google link, which will enhance Fiji’s global connectivity.
“Approximately 70 percent of Fiji’s outsourcing employees are women. As a sector that operates primarily online, providing women with equal opportunities is crucial,” Janif said. “The upcoming Google link will significantly improve our connectivity, empowering more women to participate in digital trade.”
The 9th Global Trade Aid for Review, hosted by the World Trade Organization (WTO), brought together key stakeholders from the Indo-Pacific region to discuss best practices, challenges, and innovative solutions in trade and development.
“The collaborative efforts of our government and international partners, such as the Australian government’s Market Development Facility, have been instrumental in our journey, fostering the growth of the outsourcing industry,” Janif added.
