BA, FIJI – Litia Moce’s journey has been marked by both struggles and resilience since the passing of her father when she was just nine months old. Raised by her widowed mother, whom she promised to create a better life for, Moce is now fulfilling that vow as a dedicated primary school teacher at St Teresa’s Catholic School in Ba. At 24 years old, and having spent three years in the teaching profession, she expresses gratitude for the path she has chosen.

Recently, Moce took a significant step toward enhancing her qualifications by enrolling in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) program at the Fiji National University (FNU) during the FNU 2026 Roadshow in Ba. This program is part of FNU’s College of Humanities, Education and Law, which aims to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge for primary education.

Moce’s motivation draws heavily from her mother, a teacher at Balevuto Public School, whose commitment to education and strong Catholic faith have been a source of inspiration for her. “Seeing my mother work tirelessly every day encouraged me to pursue teaching,” Moce shared. She initially aspired to be a veterinarian but believes she is meant to contribute to the education sector. Looking ahead, Moce aspires to serve as a lecturer at FNU, furthering her impact in the field of education.

Like Moce, 17-year-old Ansh Kumar also understands the weight of family expectations. After losing his mother in Year 8 and his father just last year, he carries his late parents’ encouragement to “become something great.” Despite these challenges, Kumar has proudly accepted an offer to pursue a Diploma in Agriculture (Level 5) at FNU’s College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF). He believes in the critical role agriculture plays in ensuring food security and addressing climate change, aiming to work with the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji to protect the nation’s agricultural interests.

The FNU 2026 Roadshow is currently making its way through various regions, including Rakiraki, Tavua, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Navua, Nausori, Labasa, Taveuni, and Levuka, concluding this Saturday. The initiative showcases opportunities for students like Moce and Kumar who are determined to forge brighter futures in their chosen fields.

Together, these stories highlight the power of perseverance and dedication to one’s dreams, even in the face of adversity.
