Fiji has made a significant move in women’s cricket by appointing Adi Mereoni Vakacerevuna Uluiviti as the new manager for its senior women’s cricket team. Uluiviti, who also leads the Nausori Majidez women’s cricket team—current champions of the Suva women’s T20 league—brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm for enhancing team dynamics and the development of individual players. This appointment marks her first leadership role within a national team, and she is eager to cultivate an environment centered on unity and excellence.

“I view this new role not just as a responsibility, but as a challenge that I wholeheartedly embrace,” Uluiviti shared. She aims to create a supportive atmosphere that fosters growth and teamwork as the team prepares for the upcoming Four Nations tournament T20 series in New Caledonia.

Currently ranked 72nd in the world, improving Fiji’s international standing is a key focus. Uluiviti believes that a strong team culture, rooted in camaraderie among players, is essential for success on the field. “The team maintains a focused and determined atmosphere, with the girls taking things one step at a time,” she commented.

Looking ahead, 2025 will be a crucial year for women’s cricket in Fiji, as the country is set to host the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifier in September, where various teams will compete for a place in the 2026 Women’s World Cup. This not only highlights a growing commitment to women’s cricket but also underscores the significance of grassroots development via local tournaments and leagues.

Uluiviti aspires to inspire the next generation of female cricketers in Fiji. With the Four Nations tournament approaching, there is much anticipation surrounding the competition, as it signifies a positive shift for women’s cricket in the region, suggesting an encouraging future for athletes in this sport.

Overall, Uluiviti’s leadership, alongside the dedication of the national team, positions Fiji’s women’s cricket on the path toward greater international recognition and success, motivating more young girls to follow their passions in sports. The focus on development and teamwork shows promise not only for the team’s immediate future but also for the growth of women’s cricket as a whole in Fiji.
