The Fijian Government has launched a new digital service, the Starting a Business Sub-System, aimed at simplifying processes for entrepreneurs and easing compliance burdens with regulatory authorities. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSME, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, announced this initiative during the Chinese New Year Spring Festival Market in Suva, highlighting the government’s dedication to economic development.

Kamikamica acknowledged the significant challenges entrepreneurs face in Fiji, particularly the time-consuming nature of compliance and the excessive paperwork involved. The new system allows for the pre-population of documents, which means business owners will no longer need to repeatedly submit the same forms. Additionally, entrepreneurs will have the ability to track their application statuses in real-time, further enhancing efficiency.

“This initiative is not just about reducing paperwork. It’s about empowering our business community to focus on what truly matters—growing their enterprises and contributing to Fiji’s economy,” Kamikamica stated. He emphasized that the government’s efforts aim to create a more supportive business environment.

The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned ongoing reforms, including a review of the immigration process and the development of the Fiji Trade Information Portal, both designed to promote industry growth and improve efficiency.

The Chinese New Year Spring Festival Market, which was held in conjunction with the ROC Market in Suva, showcased a variety of products and offers local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) additional income opportunities each month.

This initiative is a hopeful step towards fostering an efficient business climate in Fiji, paving the way for sustainable economic growth by enabling entrepreneurs to operate with fewer bureaucratic hurdles. The focus on digital transformation illustrates a commitment to modernizing government services, which can ultimately benefit the economy and community at large.
