In a poignant demonstration of solidarity with Palestine, activists in Fiji have recreated a Nativity scene just days before Christmas. This event was organized by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) and the Fijians for Palestine Solidarity Network at the FWCC compound.
The Nativity scene featured a baby Jesus amid rubble, draped in a black and white checked fabric, mirroring the conditions faced by many in Palestine. Reverend Munther Isaac reflected on this imagery by stating, “If Christ were to be born today, he would be born under the rubble and Israeli shelling,” highlighting the grim reality for children living in conflict zones.
This powerful representation aims to draw attention to the suffering of Palestinian children, emphasizing the stark contrast between the traditional Christmas narrative of hope and the current hardships faced by families in Gaza, where images of despair and struggle have become all too common.
This act of remembrance and solidarity not only sheds light on the plight of Palestinians but also embodies the true spirit of Christmas—compassion and hope for those suffering. It serves as a reminder that even in the midst of hardship, there is a call to recognize and support the vulnerable.
As we approach the holiday season, this initiative is a hopeful reminder of the global community’s commitment to peace and the protection of human dignity. It encourages empathy and solidarity across borders, bringing attention to the urgent need for humanitarian care and support for those affected by conflict.
