The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji is reinforcing its commitment to road safety by cracking down on reckless driving. As of December 9, 2024, the Authority has canceled 62 driver licenses and suspended 21 more, reflecting a firm stance against unsafe driving behaviors.

LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted that the Authority has organized 107 counseling sessions across various branches to educate individuals about responsible driving. During these sessions, they issued a total of 1,366 first warnings, 297 second warnings, and 155 final warnings. This effort is part of the LTA’s strategy to promote road safety and discourage reckless behaviors among drivers.

In addition to the aforementioned measures, the LTA has placed 39 client IDs on hold due to serious violations and has referred one case for audit. Rokosawa emphasized that these actions demonstrate the Authority’s zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and its dedication to ensuring safe roads for all users.

The Chief Executive further explained that the LTA’s approach goes beyond just punitive measures. The initiatives aim to save lives and prevent accidents by holding offenders accountable and removing dangerous drivers from the road. He stated, “Every license we cancel or suspend is one less potential threat on the road,” emphasizing the responsibility every driver holds not just for themselves, but for everyone who shares the road.

Overall, the LTA’s proactive measures reflect a hopeful outlook towards improving road safety and reducing traffic-related incidents significantly. This initiative reminds all drivers of the crucial role they play in maintaining safe roadways, ensuring the well-being of the entire community.
