Lami Kava has made significant strides in Fiji’s kava industry with the launch of its innovative dehydrated green instant kava powder. The event, officiated by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, marks a key milestone for the company, pushing the boundaries of traditional kava production by utilizing fresh green kava mulch to create a convenient instant powder.

This premium kava product is aimed at high-value international markets, offering a fresh and superior kava experience. Lami Kava is not stopping at kava; the company is also diversifying its offerings by venturing into the production of ginger, turmeric, and layalaya (wild ginger) instant powders, which will help strengthen its presence in the global health and wellness sectors.

The introduction of these new products is poised to benefit local farming households, creating economic opportunities for communities in Fiji. This expansion is a result of the collaborative efforts between Lami Kava and the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Plus Program (PHAMA Plus), supported by the Australian and New Zealand governments.

Kamikamica praised Lami Kava for its leadership and innovative spirit, emphasizing that these advancements set a new standard in the kava industry. Donny Yee, Managing Director of Lami Kava, expressed gratitude for the support from the PHAMA Plus Program, which has been instrumental in launching this new production line.

Navi Tuivuniwai, the PHAMA Plus Fiji Country Manager, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Lami Kava’s proactive approach to evolving with market demands and its role as an industry leader.

This launch signals a new chapter for Lami Kava, with a vision of expanding into high-growth international markets, thereby strengthening Fiji’s position in global kava and natural wellness product industries. By embracing innovation and supporting local farmers, Lami Kava is not just contributing to the economic success of Fiji but also fostering a hopeful future for communities reliant on kava cultivation.

The continuous growth and diversification of the kava industry underscore its potential to evolve into a billion-dollar sector, further benefitting local producers while enhancing Fiji’s agricultural landscape. This positive trajectory indicates a promising future for both the company and the kava industry at large, embracing sustainability and cultural heritage while catering to global market needs.
