Beyond the headline

Lami Kava has made remarkable progress in Fiji’s kava sector with the launch of its groundbreaking dehydrated green instant kava powder. This pivotal event was officiated by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, and represents a significant leap forward in kava production by utilizing fresh green kava mulch to develop a convenient instant powder.

This innovative kava product targets high-value international markets, promising consumers a fresh and premium kava experience. Beyond kava, Lami Kava is also diversifying its product lineup to include instant powders made from ginger, turmeric, and layalaya (wild ginger), thereby strengthening its foothold in the global health and wellness sector.

The introduction of these new offerings is expected to yield substantial economic opportunities for local farming households in Fiji. This expansion is attributable to the collaborative efforts of Lami Kava and the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Plus Program (PHAMA Plus), which is backed by the Australian and New Zealand governments.

Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica lauded Lami Kava for its innovative spirit and leadership in setting new standards within the kava industry. Lami Kava’s Managing Director, Donny Yee, expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the PHAMA Plus Program, which has been crucial in establishing this new production line. Navi Tuivuniwai, the PHAMA Plus Fiji Country Manager, shared similar views, emphasizing Lami Kava’s proactive response to evolving market demands and its status as a leader in the industry.

This launch opens a new chapter for Lami Kava, with ambitions to penetrate high-growth international markets, thereby fortifying Fiji’s position in the global kava and natural wellness product industries. By championing innovation and aiding local farmers, Lami Kava is not only contributing to the economic success of Fiji but is also cultivating a hopeful future for communities dependent on kava cultivation.

The ongoing development and diversification of the kava industry highlight its potential to transform into a billion-dollar sector, benefiting local producers and enriching Fiji’s agricultural landscape. This optimistic trajectory suggests a bright future for both Lami Kava and the kava industry as a whole, embracing sustainability and cultural heritage while meeting global market needs.
