Fiji’s Junior Kulas kicked off their campaign in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship with an impressive 4-0 victory over Tahiti at the Samoa Football headquarters in Apia. The match saw captain Teonila Levuiciva lead the charge, scoring the opening goal in the 11th minute, following previous attempts that were disallowed. Fiji dominated the first half, with Adi Reva extending the lead to 2-0 just before halftime.

As the second half commenced, Tahiti tried to rally back, creating several chances through set-pieces, but Fiji’s defense, bolstered by their goalkeeper, remained resolute. Fiji secured a penalty in the 62nd minute, calmly converted by Kalisi Dama, marking the team’s third goal. Substitute Akanisi Katonitabua capped off the scoring in injury time, sealing a dominant win for the team and coach Marika Rodu.

This victory aligns with Fiji’s aspirations in this championship, building confidence and showcasing the resilience of the team as they prepare for their next match against Samoa. The young players are inspired by the recent successes of their male counterparts, specifically the boys’ team that qualified for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. The ongoing commitment and hard work put forth by Fiji’s Junior Kulas signal a bright future for women’s football in Fiji and may inspire further investment and growth in the sport.

Looking ahead, the Junior Kulas have an exciting opportunity to continue their journey in the tournament and further demonstrate their skills and determination on an international platform.
