The first Golf Fiji junior tournament in six years took place at the Novotel Golf Course over the weekend, drawing over 35 young golfers from across the nation. Despite the rainy weather that prompted a reduction in play to 15 holes, the event proceeded successfully, showcasing the resilience and sportsmanship of the participants.
Aarav Nand emerged as the champion in the U18 category, delivering an impressive performance with a gross score of 59. He was followed by Demon Chen from Ba, who finished with a score of 62, while Rusiate from Suva secured third place with 63.
In the U12 division, which played nine holes, seven-year-old Kairav Prasad from Natadola Bay claimed victory with a score of 43. Anaya Chand from Ba took second place with 46 points, and Kayden Prasad rounded out the podium with a score of 47.
The U9 category, played over five holes, saw Chriyansh Dass from Lautoka win with a score of 31. Inoke Bolakoro Jnr was a close second with 34 points, while Joseph Drauniniu, also from Lautoka, finished third at 40.
Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra expressed gratitude to Inoke Bolakoro and the Novotel management for their support and sponsorship of the event. He announced that the next junior golf tournament will take place during the first-term school holidays at the same venue.
Sponsoring the tournament were Golf Fiji, New Delhi Electrical, and Easypar Golf, highlighting a strong commitment to promoting youth golf in Fiji. This event marks a hopeful revival for junior golf in the country and sets a positive precedent for future competitions.
