The Fijian Housing Ministry is making significant strides toward providing long-term housing for families as it increases lease approvals and settlement upgrades. Minister Maciu Nalumisa announced that before the year concludes, over 300 leases will be distributed in Ledrusasa, Nadi, and Waidamudamu, Nausori. This follows a previous handover of 99-year leases to more than 100 families in Cuvu Settlement, Sigatoka.
Nalumisa highlighted that multiple housing projects are currently underway, with four informal settlements under construction in Tavela in Nadi, Sakoca in Nasinu, Tore in Lautoka, and Field 4 in Lautoka. He described these initiatives as vital progress, emphasizing the government’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities.
In addition to the new leases, the Ministry is also launching various support programs, including the Rent-to-Own scheme and the First Home-Owners Grant, aimed at increasing housing accessibility. Nalumisa expressed gratitude towards traditional landowners, stressing the importance of building strong partnerships between the government and the Vanua to ensure inclusive development.
This focus on housing improvement aligns with ongoing efforts by the government, as seen in previous announcements regarding the issuance of 454 leases to residents in informal settlements and the progress of other housing initiatives designed to meet the rising demand for affordable homes in Fiji. As these projects continue to unfold, there is a growing optimism that more families will soon have access to suitable and affordable housing, which presents a hopeful outlook for community stability and improved living conditions.
Overall, the proactive engagement in addressing housing issues reflects a commitment to a brighter future for many families in Fiji.
