Holi, often referred to as the festival of colors, is a lively celebration that radiates joy, unity, and positivity. A recent highlight was the Holi celebration at DAV Girls College in Nabua, which showcased the blend of cultures and the spirit of togetherness.
Sueta Dutt Chaudhary, a dedicated teacher at the college, praised the heartwarming nature of the event, commending the students’ commitment as they put in countless hours of practice for their performances. These efforts included traditional Holi songs, hawan rituals, and engaging musical acts, all achieved despite limited resources. The principal, Mrs. Sahindra Kumar, and vice-principal, Mrs. Sunita Prasad, provided crucial support, contributing to the event’s overall success.
In Ms. Chaudhary’s words, “Holi carries profound messages of faith, love, hard work, and appreciates the beauty of colors in life,” emphasizing how the festival symbolizes unity in diversity and highlights the strength found in various cultural identities coexisting peacefully.
This year also marks the FMF Mirchi FM and Radio Fiji Two Non-Stop Holi Masti event, taking place on Saturday at the Damodar City Centre Carpark from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event aims to be inclusive, encouraging participation from all walks of life in the colorful festivities. Past celebrations have garnered enthusiastic participation, notably engaging the youth and fostering cultural interactions that enhance community bonds.
Prominent figures such as Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, have recognized Holi’s role in fostering togetherness, urging citizens to partake in virtuous acts that contribute to the community’s well-being. Dhirendra Nand, the National President of the Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, echoed these sentiments, discussing the myriad meanings represented by the vibrant colors of Holi and advocating for the spread of positivity, particularly for those facing hardships.
