The Fiji Men’s Development team narrowly lost to Samoa in the final of the 2024 Oceania 7s tournament held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, with a final score of 17-12 after extra time. The match began with Samoa taking an early lead, going into halftime ahead 5-0.

As the second half unfolded, Samoa extended their lead before Fiji staged a strong comeback. Iosefo Namoce’s crucial try leveled the score, putting Fiji back in contention. However, Solomoni Rauqe’s missed conversion kick from a favorable position meant that the game went into extra time instead of a potential victory for Fiji right away.

In extra time, Samoa capitalized on their momentum and scored the decisive try shortly after the restart, securing their victory. In the tournament’s other match, Tonga claimed third place by edging out Tuvalu with a close 24-19 win, also decided in extra time.

Despite the disappointment of the final, Fiji’s effort in the tournament demonstrates their resilience and potential. The players showcased significant skills and determination, setting a solid foundation for future competitions. With continued support and development, Fiji’s rugby teams can look forward to reclaiming titles in upcoming events.
