Fiji triumphed over the Solomon Islands 6-5 in a penalty shootout during their final group match of the 2024 OFC Men’s Beach Soccer Nations Cup in Honiara today. The match was fiercely contested and ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to the shootout to determine the winner. Fiji’s captain, Tevita Waranaivalu, and Steven Dean scored the goals during regular play. Waranaivalu successfully converted Fiji’s first penalty kick, followed by successful attempts from Dean, Adriu Nabose, France Catarogo, and goalkeepers Sanaila Waqanicakau and Ilisoni Koro. Despite the victory, Fiji did not qualify for the final set for Saturday, which will feature defending champions Tahiti and the Solomon Islands. In previous matches, the team, coached by Jerry Sam, faced defeats, losing 8-6 to Papua New Guinea and 10-1 to Tahiti.
