Seven community organizations in Fiji have recently been awarded financial support through the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry’s Multi-Ethnic Grant Program. This initiative, which aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering social cohesion, has funneled a total of $228,275 into various projects aimed at improving essential services. The recipients include six organizations from the Central Division and one from the Eastern Division.

Minister Charan Jeath Singh announced that the funds will be utilized for a variety of initiatives, including solar electrification, educational support, provision of materials for sheds, and renovations at Levuka Cemetery. He reiterated the importance of empowering grassroots communities and enhancing collaboration among Fiji’s diverse ethnic groups.

Singh emphasized the transparent distribution process of these grants and encouraged those who were not successful in this round to apply again after August. The minister stated, “These are public funds, and accountability is essential. The Ministry will continue monitoring all projects to ensure grants are used responsibly for the intended purposes.”

This round of funding follows an earlier disbursement of $1.48 million, which has already positively impacted numerous communities by facilitating the development of local infrastructure and improving access to vital resources. As these initiatives progress, there is a clear opportunity for strengthened community ties and enhanced living standards for many Fijians.

Overall, the government’s continued investment through this grant program is not only a testament to their commitment to social development but also fosters hope for a collaborative and thriving future among Fiji’s multicultural communities.
