Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) in Nadi has officially launched its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, designed to aid in treating chronic conditions such as wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The opening ceremony was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development & Statistics, Prof Prasad.

HBOT is a breakthrough in medical technology that can accelerate recovery processes and potentially diminish the need for amputations related to diabetes. Prof Prasad highlighted the urgent need for such advancements by noting that non-communicable diseases, with diabetes as a primary concern, account for a significant number of premature deaths in Fiji. He emphasized the alarming statistic of one diabetes-related amputation occurring every 12 hours, calling for a transformative change in healthcare practices.

The introduction of this Hyperbaric Chamber marks a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare outcomes and reflects Fiji’s dedication to improving its medical infrastructure. Prof Prasad also pointed out that this new service could foster collaboration with regional healthcare providers, boost medical tourism, and position Fiji as a leading destination for sophisticated healthcare services.

This initiative signifies hope for many patients suffering from diabetes and related conditions, as advanced treatment options like HBOT may lead to better health outcomes and a reduction in the need for amputations, ultimately improving quality of life.

In summary, the introduction of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at PSH represents a promising step forward in addressing critical health issues in Fiji, forging new pathways for enhanced healthcare delivery and regional partnerships.
